Saudi Arabian Botanical Society (SABS) was founded in 2020 by Munirah Al Hazani. Although Saudi Arabia seems to outsiders as a region void of any flora, there are currently more than 2,000 species of plants known to call it home. SABS has been tasked to preserve local plant species, renew interest in botany, and to advocate for the participation of an array of stakeholders.
Saudi Arabian Botanical Gardens Initiative
It has been the prerogative of the Saudi Arabian Botanical Society (SABS) since its inception in 2018 and its official recognition in 2020 to lead in the creation of Saudi Arabia’s first national botanical garden.
Bateela was commissioned in 2021 by the Saudi Arabian Botanical Society with the kind and generous support of the Princess Al Anoud Charitable Foundation through the Al Anoud Child and Family Development Center, Shadan to spread awareness of the importance of the environment through plants.
